Belgian cycling star Remco Evenepoel is recovering after surgery to treat multiple fractures sustained in a training crash on Tuesday. The 24-year-old, who recently triumphed at the Paris Olympics, broke several bones, including his ribs, shoulder blade, and hand, in the collision with an open postal vehicle door in Belgium. He also suffered lung contusions, a dislocated clavicle, and torn ligaments.

Evenepoel, who previously fractured his pelvis in a 2020 crash, shared on Instagram that the surgery was successful and he is focused on recovering. Despite the setbacks, he remains determined to return stronger. He expressed gratitude for the support he received from medical teams, his family, and the public, and offered his best wishes to the woman involved in the incident.

The 2022 Vuelta a España winner and 2023 Tour de France podium finisher is expected to face a long recovery journey.
