Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has made a compelling appeal to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), urging them to consider holding the Super Eagles’ international matches in the city of Ibadan.
He added that this initiative could boost his administration’s efforts to enhance the sports economy within the state.
Makinde made this request during his opening remarks at the 2025 Annual General Assembly of the NFF, which took place in Ibadan.

He highlighted the vital role that football plays as a unifying force in Nigeria, capable of bringing together diverse groups and fostering a sense of national pride.
He assured attendees that the state is well-prepared to host major sporting events, showcasing a range of facilities that meet the high standards necessary for such prestigious games.
“Oyo State, particularly the vibrant city of Ibadan, is ready and equipped to host top-tier events, including matches for the Super Eagles.
“We possess the required facilities, and I commit to providing full governmental support to ensure that these events are not only successful but also memorable,” Makinde stated.
In addition to his appeal for international matches, Makinde took the opportunity to commend the leadership of the NFF and the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for their ongoing reform efforts.

He expressed his appreciation for their initiatives aimed at improving officiating standards and enhancing the overall organisation of the domestic league, underscoring the importance of such developments in elevating the quality of football in the country.
