UK Labour Party has suspended a West London councilor after it occured an illegal worker was employed to her home.

Councillor Hina Mir, the former Deputy Mayor of Hounslow, was fined £40,000 in January by a county court for employing an illegal worker. Her attempt to overturn the ruling was rejected by a judge, who also ordered her to pay £3,620 in court costs.

Despite the judgement, Cllr Mir remained a Labour councillor and was re-selected for the 2026 local elections. She was also appointed Chair of the Housing and Environment Scrutiny Panel in May, four months after the initial ruling, even though Hounslow Labour was reportedly aware of the case.

Cllr Mir, a qualified solicitor, was found to have paid a student cash-in-hand to care for her children and carry out household duties.

Conservative Councillor Jack Emlsey accused Hounslow party of double standards, saying she should have been suspended immediately after the January ruling and questioning why she was re-selected and given a senior scrutiny role.

The case adds to growing scrutiny of conduct within Hounslow Labour. Two weeks ago, Cllr Mir was reported to have parked in a disabled bay without a blue badge, an incident the party said it was investigating.

Separately, Labour councillor Farhaan Rehman previously apologised for a similar parking offence and resigned from one role. Questions have also been raised about his business interests, which the council is understood to be reviewing.

A Labour spokesperson confirmed Cllr Mir’s suspension but declined to comment further, citing an ongoing internal investigation.
