Sami Trabelsi

The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) has confirmed the dismissal of head coach Sami Trabelsi following Tunisia’s exit from the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations.

‎The decision was taken on Sunday, less than 24 hours after the Carthage Eagles were knocked out by Mali in the Round of 16.

‎In a short statement, the federation said the separation was reached by mutual consent with Trabelsi and his entire technical staff, pointing to the team’s inability to advance further in the competition.

‎“The Executive Committee has decided to end the contractual relationship by mutual agreement with the entire technical staff of the national team,” the FTF said in a statement published on the CAF website.

‎Tunisia, who have been chasing their first AFCON title since 2004, were held to a 1–1 draw after extra time before losing to Mali in a tense penalty shootout.

‎The Carthage Eagles began their campaign brightly with a convincing 3–1 victory over Uganda, briefly restoring hopes of a strong tournament run.

‎ However, a 3–2 defeat to Nigeria exposed defensive weaknesses, while a 1–1 draw against Tanzania in their final group match further raised concerns about the team’s consistency and overall balance.
