Badaru denies defection rumours, reaffirms loyalty to APC

Badaru Abubakar

The immediate past Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar has firmly dismissed speculation that he is in consultations to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement published on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, Badaru described the reports as “baseless, unfounded, and a product of political mischief.”

He urged APC members and the general public to disregard the rumors entirely.

Badaru, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Jigawa State, emphasized his enduring commitment to the ruling party.

“I remain a dedicated member of the APC and have no intention of leaving the party I helped build,” he stated.

He further reiterated, “I remain a loyal and committed member of the APC, and there has been no change whatsoever in my political affiliation.”

The denial comes amid a period of political realignments in Nigeria, with recent defections and rumors swirling ahead of future elections.

Badaru’s resignation from the defense portfolio in December 2025, officially cited as health-related, had previously sparked unrelated speculation, which he also debunked while affirming his support for President Bola Tinubu and the APC’s agenda.
