CAF boosts AFCON 2025 winner’s prize to $10m ‎

In a move aimed at boosting the value, competitiveness, and global stature of Africa’s premier football tournament, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in prize money for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe revealed that the tournament winner will take home a record-breaking $10 million. The announcement was made during a CAF Executive Committee meeting held in Rabat, Morocco, on the eve of the tournament’s kickoff.

‎AFCON Morocco 2025 is scheduled to take place from Sunday, December 21, 2025, to Sunday, January 18, 2026.

‎According to a statement published on CAF’s official website, the new prize money represents a 43 percent increase from the previous edition in 2023, where hosts Côte d’Ivoire received $7 million after lifting the trophy.

‎The growth in prize money highlights a dramatic rise over the past four years. Winners of the TotalEnergies AFCON Cameroon 2021 earned $5 million, which increased to $7 million at Côte d’Ivoire 2023, and has now doubled to $10 million for the 2025 edition.

CAF also disclosed that the runners-up at AFCON Morocco 2025 will receive $4 million, while each of the two losing semi-finalists will earn $2.5 million.

‎In addition, Dr. Motsepe announced a major change to the African football calendar. Speaking in Morocco ahead of the tournament, he confirmed that AFCON will transition to a four-year cycle, with the 2032 tournament marking the first official quadrennial edition.
