Real Madrid have confirmed the appointment of Álvaro Arbeloa as the club’s new first-team head coach following the departure of Xabi Alonso by mutual agreement.

‎The decision comes in the aftermath of Real Madrid’s 3–2 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final, a thrilling encounter that ended in disappointment for Los Blancos.

‎ Shortly after the loss, the club announced that Alonso would step down from his role, bringing his tenure to an end.

‎In an official statement published on Real Madrid C.F.’s website, the club named Arbeloa as Alonso’s successor, placing their trust in a coach who is deeply rooted in the club’s philosophy and youth development system.

‎The 42-year-old has been in charge of Real Madrid Castilla since June 2025 and has spent his entire coaching career within the club’s academy since 2020.

‎ His rise through the ranks has been marked by consistent success: he led the Under-14s A to a league title in the 2020–2021 season, coached the Under-16s in 2021–2022, and managed the Under-19s from 2022 to 2025.

‎During his time with the Under-19s, Arbeloa enjoyed a historic 2022–2023 campaign, winning the treble of the League, Copa del Rey, and Champions Cup, before adding another league title in the 2024–2025 season.

‎As a player, the Spanish was a key figure during one of the most successful eras in Real Madrid’s history.

‎ He represented the club between 2009 and 2016, making 238 official appearances and winning eight major trophies, including two UEFA Champions League titles, a Club World Cup, a UEFA Super Cup, LaLiga, two Copa del Rey trophies, and a Spanish Super Cup.

‎Arbeloa also enjoyed an illustrious international career with Spain, earning 56 caps and playing a part in a golden generation that won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, as well as the European Championships in 2008 and 2012.
