Former Kaduna Gov release must follow court Order — Adeyanju

Deji Adeyanju says Jonathan is the only southerner who can defeat Tinubu in 2027.

A human right lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has commended the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission for releasing embattled former governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasiru Ahmed Rufai following the demise of his mother on Friday.

El-Rufai has been in detention of ICPC since February, 18, 2025, after honouring an invitation of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for alleged misuse of funds.

Adeyanju’s statement reads, “The decision to grant Mallam Nasir El-Rufai temporary release from Independent Corrupt Practices Commission custody to attend his mother’s burial is both humane and commendable but must be backed by court decision/order since he was remanded in custody on the order of the court”.

“The decision to allow Elrufai to attend his mother’s funeral reflects a necessary balance between the demands of justice and respect for fundamental human dignity. Bail, whether administrative or judicial, should not be misconstrued as an escape from accountability, but rather as a lawful and compassionate accommodation in deserving circumstances”.

He further points that this action by the authorities is a welcome demonstration of empathy while upholding the rule of law.

New Daily Prime had earlier reported how his son Bashir El-Rufai tweeted that his father has been granted bail from the unlawful detention by the anti-corruption agency, following their grandmother’s death.

ICPC granted El-Rufai bail following his mother’s death on Friday which President Bola Ahmed, National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani and other political associates sympathized with him over the death of his aged-mother.
