Afrobeats singer Oxlade has urged fellow artists to insist on proper sound checks before performing at events, following what he described as a disastrous show in London.

The singer, who recently headlined his first-ever event alongside Bella Shmurda, revealed that poor organisation by the event planners led to terrible sound quality during the performance.

Talking to X, Oxlade warned artists not to rely solely on organisers, stressing that performers must take responsibility for ensuring the technical quality of their shows.

“Dear performing artist, I know organisers can do better with the gadgets required to run a show. But please, don’t perform anywhere without running a proper sound check. Na from sound check you go don know your fate,” he wrote.

Recounting the experience, Oxlade said the organisers failed to allow a sound check at the venue before the event began.

“My first ever headline event, Bella Shmurda headlined this event. The organisation was shit. We couldn’t even do a sound check at the venue before the show,” he stated.

He explained that while the monitor speakers on stage sounded fairly okay, the speakers meant for the audience were extremely poor, ruining the experience for fans.

“The monitor speakers, the ones feeding the stage, sounded fair, but the speakers feeding the audience were terrible. That’s gotta be the worst event I performed at,” Oxlade added.

The singer concluded by advising artists to learn from his experience, noting that proper sound checks are essential to delivering quality performances and protecting their reputation.
