The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has ordered members to get back to work today. The decision came after JUSUN suspended its ongoing industrial action. This was disclosed in a communique authorised by the National Vice President of the union, with 10 other members of the association’s leadership. The strike commenced on Monday, led to the closure of most of the courts, including all the Federal Capital Territory high courts. The association stated that the reason behind the suspension of the strike came after long discussions on the issues that led to the strike action and meetings held in the presence of the representatives of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and other relevant stakeholders, on Tuesday. The judiciary union leadership concluded it would request the intervention of the CJN and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, as well as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and other stakeholders. According to the association, the suspension of the strike would allow the union to engage the Federal Government to ensure the release of funds to the judiciary within a month. “Upon the release of the funds to the Judiciary, the demands by the JUSUN implementation of the N70,000 new minimum wage and its arrears, 25/35 per cent salary increase and 5 Months’ wage award and their arrears will be implemented immediately,” the statement partly reads. Judiciary workers’ strike halts Natasha’s case The strike had stalled the arraignment of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the federal lawmaker representing Kogi Central, on Tuesday.. She was to be fixed to be arraigned before the FCT High Court on Tuesday, June 3, over a criminal charge filed by the Federal Government over her defamatory statement against Godswill Akpabio, Senate President, and Yahaya Bello, Kogi State Governor. According to the charge marked CR/297/25, Akpoti-Uduaghan was accused of making criminal imputations during a live broadcast and a private phone conversation, which allegedly defamed Akpabio and Bello.
