Gloucester is set to welcome a new NHS dental centre later this year, aimed at improving access to dental care for residents struggling to get timely treatment.

The Gloucester Integrated Care Board (ICB) has approved the establishment of the Quayside House Dental Access Centre, which will provide daytime, evening, and weekend urgent care appointments.

Christina Worle, dental strategy clinical lead at the ICB, said the centre, expected to open by summer 2026, will have a “meaningful impact in an area where residents face challenges accessing NHS dental care.”

Smile Together CIC has been awarded the contract to operate the service while the centre is located in Quayside House, a Gloucestershire County Council property, will feature seven treatment rooms and offer appointments for patients needing urgent care follow-ups who do not have their own dentist.

“Offering extended urgent care and targeted support for those who need it most is a key priority,” Worle said, noting that while more work is needed across the county, the contract award marks an important milestone.

Paul Hodgkinson, Gloucestershire County Council’s cabinet member for public health, added that the centre will help build a more resilient NHS dental service. “Good oral health is fundamental to overall wellbeing, yet many residents currently struggle to access NHS dental care when they need it most,” he said.

Work on the centre will continue into 2027 to expand the availability of urgent care and stabilisation appointments across the county, ensuring more residents receive the care they need promptly.
