Elon Musk has stepped down as a senior advisor to US President Donald Trump, ending his role as a Special Government Employee with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The X CEO’s departure follows a public disagreement with Trump over the “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act,” a spending bill that Musk believes would increase the federal deficit and undermine the mission of DOGE. The Tesla boss criticised the spending bill, stating it would worsen the national deficit and hinder DOGE’s progress in reducing bureaucracy. Recall that the involvement in politics of the microblogging owner led to backlash against Tesla, including protests and arson attacks, which negatively impacted the company’s profits. He Plans to refocus on his private ventures, SpaceX and Tesla, and retreat from political funding efforts after contributing approximately $250 million to Trump’s campaign. President Trump defended the bill, saying it’s a product of compromise and has a way to go before finalisation. He expressed gratitude to Trump for the opportunity to work on reducing wasteful spending, stating that the DOGE mission will continue to strengthen within government operations.
