Britain’s Prime Minister, Keir Starmer met briefly with China’s President, Xi Jinping at the Sheraton Hotel, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil moments before the commencement of the G20 summit meeting on Monday.

UK media reported that Starmer told the Chinese President Xi Jinping that Britain will be a “predictable, consistent, sovereign actor committed to the rule of law” in their bilateral ties.

According to Britain’s Press Association, Starmer was said to have told his Chinese counterpart, “We want our relations to be consistent, durable, respectful” and to “avoid surprises where possible.”

The summit has since commenced.
