Former US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink resigned from her role in April, citing disagreement with President Donald Trump’s foreign policy. In an op-ed published in the Detroit Free Press, Brink stated that Trump’s policy has been to pressure Ukraine rather than Russia. She emphasized that peace at any price is not peace at all, but appeasement. Brink, a career diplomat, served as ambassador to Ukraine from May 2022 until her departure last month. As a long-serving diplomat, she felt it was her duty to step down due to the policy differences. Under Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden, Brink took a public line supportive of Ukraine. After Trump assumed office in January 2025, Brink’s public statements became more neutral. She was criticized by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in April for her response to a Russian missile strike that killed 20 people. Shortly after, the State Department announced Brink’s departure.
