American rapper Wale reveals past support for Wizkid

Nigerian-American rapper Wale has spoken about the role he played in the early international exposure of Afrobeats star Wizkid.

The rapper made the revelation during a recent livestream with Nigerian comedian and content creator Carter Efe, where he reflected on his long-standing relationship with the Grammy-winning singer.

According to Wale, he played a critical part in introducing Wizkid to a global audience, including taking him to his first-ever BET Awards ceremony. He described the singer as someone he has been close to for nearly a decade.

“I have been following Nigerian music, there are so many Nigerian artists that I like listening to. I don’t know some of them personally, but I enjoy their music,” Wale said.

He added that his relationship with Wizkid goes beyond admiration, noting that they worked closely together during the early stages of Wizkid’s international journey.

“There are some I know personally like Wizkid. Me and Wizkid have been cool for almost 10 years now. I remember taking him to his first BET Awards show,” he stated.

Wale also disclosed that he once hosted Wizkid in Beverly Hills, California, where the duo spent an entire summer making music together.

“That is my boy. I once accommodated him in Beverly Hills for a whole summer. We were just writing music. We made a lot of songs together, like ‘Drop for Me’,” he explained.

The revelation has sparked renewed conversations online about Wizkid’s rise to global fame and the collaborative efforts that helped position Afrobeats on the international stage.
